E3 2019: All the Announcements that matter and other updates!

E3 2019, the world’s biggest gaming show is now in full flow, and with that we will re-cap the key announcements so far including new consoles, games and updates!

For the uninitiated, E3 is a three-day expo for games, with some of the world’s biggest publishers and console manufacturers showing the titles that will be coming out later in 2019 and beyond. Some games are announced for the very first time during the show, with others shown and various build stages and many are available to go hands-on with.

With most of the E3 2019 press conferences having already taken place, we now know some of the biggest game launches and we have condensed the best bits into a nice list below:-

Cyberpunk 2077

You can not go wrong with Keanu Reeves! and with Sony missing this years event, Microsoft came out all guns blazing (a la John Wick) using their media conference to announce the upcoming offering from CDProjektRed will feature Reeves in a main role and it will have a release date of 16th April 2020. Few other announcements will have been able to top the crowd excitement when the big man walked out on stage.

“Project Scarlett” – The New Xbox Console timeframe (and probably PS5)

Word has been going round for a little while about dev kits having been sent out to various developers in preparation for the next generation of Consoles, so it can be of little surprise that Microsoft have announced Project Scarlett, their code-name for the new Xbox.

E3 2019 was always going to be a big one for next gen and not only do we have the official announcement of an upcoming console, we have also been told to expect it’s arrival “Holiday 2020” and that Halo: Infinite will be one of the launch titles. With this announcement, we can be pretty sure the PS5 will be available around the same time…..next year will be big!

Final Fantasy VII…..and VIII…..and Chronicles

It’s been a whole 4 years of waiting with bated breath to hear anything about the hotly anticipated FFVII remake that was announced with a stunning trailer and E3 2015, with small snippets of information appearing here and there over the following years….until now!

Officially confirmed to have a release date of 3rd March 2020, we got to see more of what is being described as the biggest JRPG ever made. It is so huge that it will be spread across two Blu-ray discs when it is released and will be the first part of a re-imagined version of the story spreading over multiple games.

Not only that, Square Enix also announced that to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of Final Fantasy VIII, it will be getting it’s own remastered release (not a re-make) to be available later in the year

As well as Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles – Remastered coming to PlayStation 4, Switch, iOS, and Android.

Sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

With very few details released about this rather unexpected announcement, we atleast got to see a first look trailer of the Zelda sequel and, as per it’s prequel, will be coming to the Nintendo Switch.

With very little else to go on, we may have to wait for E3 2020 for more, but let’s just say, we want it…..a lot! At least we will have The Legends of Zelda: Link’s Awakening Remaster (also announced) to look forward too for now.

Elden Ring

One of the third-party announcements at the event was the forthcoming game co-written by Game of Thrones creator George RR Martin and developers FromSoftware. Again, very little information was given so we’re not sure what kind of game it will be, save from the fact that it will be a Dark Souls style action-RPG. That’ll do for us.

Watch Dogs Legion

Opening the Ubisoft show, Watch Dogs Legion looks like the most intriguing installment in the series yet. Not only is it set in London, but it gives you the ability to recruit and play as literally any person in the open world game.

Honourable Mentions:-

  1. Gears 5

  2. Fallout 76: Wastelanders Expansion

  3. Ghostwire: Tokyo

  4. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order – New gameplay footage

  5. Fifa 20 – Volta Football mode (Fifa Street style)

  6. Battlefield V – new maps

  7. Apex Legends – Season 2

  8. Animal Crossing: New Horizons – although delayed until March 2020

  9. Super Smash Bros Ultimate – Banjo Kazooie added to the roster

  10. Marvel’s Avengers

With so many new games announced and shown, along side updates to existing titles and snippets of new console information, we are sure to have missed something but what are you looking forward to the most? Are there any huge disappointments? Let us know.
